The local Wal-Mart's of Central Texas are conducting Food Drives for the next six weekends to help support the local food pantrys. The food drives will be conducted through June 13. With the recent economy changes local food banks have seen a sharp increase in food request. Wal-Mart will collect can and non-perishable foods items in the front area of the stores each Friday and Saturday. The three local Wal-Marts are taking their food donations to these local pantries:

Cargill Value-Added Meats is hosting a barbecue dinner and silent auction to benefit Habitat for Humanity from 5 to 8 p.m. June 20 at the Bledsoe-Miller Recreation Center. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum presents Summer Fun Round Up 2009 from 10 a.m. to r p.m. July 10. Enjoy a fun-filled day with activities includin: artifact presentations, coloring contest, old west laser target shooting, child identification kits and more. Caritas of Waco will host the 12th Annual Greater Bohemian Golf Tournament starting at 8 a.m. July 25 at the Battle Lake Golf Course. This four-person scramble will offer unique challenges to a golfer’s skills—such as driving from a toilet and putting with a pool cue!!  Tournament winners will receive the coveted plaid jackets and other wonderful golf-related prizes. Prizes will be awarded for hole-in-one, closest to the pin, and longest drive and best “Bohemian Golf Attire.”  Breakfast and lunch are included. Proceeds will go to support Caritas, which provides emergency assistance such as food, clothing, household items and medicine to people in need. A United Way agency, Caritas has been serving the Waco-McLennan County area for more than 42 years. Fees are $240 for a team of four; a limited number of “Gold” teams are available for $500. 2009 Waco Start! Heart Walk will be Oct. 17 at the Getterman Softball Stadium at Baylor University.

Thousands of women and men will unite Nov. 6-8 in Dallas and walk 60 miles through the Dallas-Fort Worth are in the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a weekend of hope honoring lives lost, celebrating survivors, promoting breast cancer research and helping bring breast cancer care. Several members of the Central Texas community have committed to walk and have agreed to raise a minimum of $2,300. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide an endowment for breast cancer initiatives. For more information, call (800) 996-3DAY.

Mayborn Museum Complex at 1300 S. University Parks Drive is a place to bring the whole family to explore. Walk across a replica of Waco's famous mammoth site, see a Comanche tipi upclose or spend your day exploring the 16 themed Discovery rooms.

Texas Ranger
