For an in-depth look at this goal, see our Waco Chamber & Business Quarterly.

Goal 1: Grow Waco
Grow Waco by broadening and strengthening existing economic development efforts to sustain quality job growth and increase local wealth in the short- and long-term.

This is the first goal of the Chamber's Strategic Plan to lay the groundwork for advancing all of the objectives we are working to achieve.

Whether it's promoting entrepreneurial success and strengthening regional economic development partnerships, tapping into Greater Waco's "hidden workforce" or retaining more Young Professionals in the area, this goal is broad-based.

Objective 1
Actively work to support existing businesses to ensure they remain in the same community and to assist them with expansion opportunities.

The Chamber's Business Retention and Expansion program is designed to meet the needs of our local industry. The Chamber also is implementing a comprehensive marketing effort to identify itself as the central command center for resolving business needs.

Objective 2
Create more opportunities and support structures for both high-growth and lifestyle entrepreneurs to thrive and attain self-sufficiency.

The Chamber's Small Business Working Group and Technology Business Briefings are among the forums available to help small businesses grow.

Objective 3
Develop and expand the Target Business Sectors to create additional jobs and strengthen the diversity of the economy.

Six target industries were identified in the plan and are the focus of development in the Chamber's economic development strategy.
Aerospace and Defense
Advanced Manufacturing
Health Care
Logistics & Trade
Professional Services
Tourism

Objective 4
Strengthen regional partnerships.

The Area Economic Development Council of leaders throughout McLennan County is just one example of how the Chamber works with neighboring communities to garner support for economic development on a wider scale.

Objective 5
Ensure that local infrastructure is adequate to support existing residents and businesses as well as future growth.

One of the Chamber's 10 Breakthrough Initiatives is to influence the location of the TransTexas Corridor in Greater Waco and locate a stop on the high-speed passenger rail line in downtown Waco.
