Starburst registration begins Feb. 14
On-line registration for the 10th annual Starburst Junior Golf Tournament begins at 8 a.m. (CST) on Feb. 14. More than 1,000 junior golfers will be accepted into the 2008 tournament.
The 10th annual Starburst Junior Golf Classic will be June 9-11 at seven area golf courses. The three-day tournament is open to all boy and girl junior golfers ages 7 to 18. In 2007, the tournament had 1020 players from 16 states and four countries.

L-3 Expanding Waco Operations with P-3 Wing Refurbishment Facility
L-3 Communications Integrated Systems has announced the expansion of its Waco operation to include a wing refurbishment facility. The wing refurbishment facility will be used to structurally refurbish wings for P-3 Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance aircraft. L-3 currently refurbishes P-3 aircraft for the U.S. Navy, the Department of Homeland Security, as well as international customers.

Starburst parent wins $2,500
Debbie Brister of Paradise City won $2,500 in the Time Warner Cable Golf Ball Drop June 12 at the ninth annual Starburst Junior Golf Classic. Some 1,500 numbered golf balls were dropped from a helicopter at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, the home base course for the second largest junior golf tournament in the world. The event was part of the three-day tournament that included more than 1,000 players ages 7 through 18.

Time Warner Cable is the new sponsor of the annual helicopter ball drop, a tradition at the Starburst Junior Golf Classic. A maximum of 1,500 golf balls will be sold for $5 each prior to the tournament. They will be dropped from a helicopter onto a green at 8 p.m. June 12 at Cottonwood Creek. The closest ball to (or in) the hole will win $2,500.

New Waco sign unveiled on interstate
The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce joined the Heart of Texas Builders Association, Keep Waco Beautiful, Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Waco March 7 to reveal the new Waco sign on Interstate 35. The community identifier and entry sign has been made possible through the partnership of these groups. The 40-foot-by-10-foot sign constructed of white Austin stone and cast concrete is located at exit 335 at Forrest Lane on the southbound side of the interstate.
