The Greater Waco Chamber stands with Baylor University and the Big 12 Conference. We are hopeful that the Conference will survive the realignment that appears to be occurring. Being a Big 12 city has been a source of pride here in Greater Waco and it's been an economic generator also.
We have asked Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst and Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus to help us keep the Big 12 together and, if that fails, to keep the Big 12’s Texas schools together.
We have also thanked the presidents of the University of Texas, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University for their efforts to keep the Big 12 together or to keep the Big 12’s Texas schools together if that becomes necessary.
The business of college athletics is a big business, and we have benefited from the dividends of that business and have certainly enjoyed the rivalries among the Big 12 schools.
While we are hopeful that the Big 12 will continue, we are unequivocal in our support of Baylor University, its outstanding athletic programs and the fine student athletes who represent our community.
