The cultural scene in Waco is a harmony of rodeo and rock, symphonies and salsa, classical and country. Kick up your boots or dress up for the symphony. The strong drama and music departments of Baylor University and McLennan Community College and local amateur talent keep the culture calendar full.

WACO CULTURAL ARTS FEST
A children’s “Arts for All” area, live music and dancing representing different cultures and cuisines from all over the world make the Waco Cultural Arts Fest an event to tantalize the senses. In its fifth year, the two-day festival showcases local artists, sculptors and photographers while celebrating diversity and fostering a greater understanding of culture through the arts. For more information, call (254) 772-2698.

OUTDOOR MUSIC
Waco’s popular outdoor music venues include Indian Spring Park with its grassy-sloped amphitheater and the Bosque River Stage, a 530-seat amphitheater on the McLennan Community College campus.

INDOOR MUSIC
The 8,000-seat Heart O’ Texas Coliseum hosts special events and concerts during the Professional Rodeo Cowboys of America competition and throughout the year. Live music also is played in nightclubs and bars throughout the city. The famed George’s Restaurant is a favorite night spot. Texas country musician and Wacoan Pat Green wrote a song about his memories there. The Waco Symphony Orchestra brings world-class performers to Waco Hall. An annual holiday pops show and periodic performances of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet add a seasonal flair.
PERFORMING ARTS
The historic Waco Hippodrome Theater and the Waco Civic Theater offer live stage productions throughout the year.

The theater departments at Baylor University and McLennan Community College also produce top-quality shows for local audiences.
ART MUSEUMS
Art Center Waco (pictured at right) offers weekend classes and special events throughout the year. The center opened in 1972 and provides a training ground for new artists and a venue for exhibiting the work of more established artists. Art Center Waco is located at 1300 College Drive on the McLennan Community College campus. For more information, call (254) 752-4371.

The Martin Museum of Art
on the Baylor University campus is open during performances of the theater department and other special events at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center. For more information, call (254) 710-1867.
